This week let’s talk about pruning your trailing/vining plants. For many of us plant lovers, cutting back our favorite plants can be intimidating or seem unnecessary. However many plants benefit from being pruned. For this week’s example we are cutting back and propagating the Epipremnum Neon.
To prevent infection, we must sterilize our tools. Isopropyl alcohol is recommended. Using a paper towel rub the alcohol along the blades or your shears.
The internodes (space between each leaf) is the ideal place to cut your plant. Cut as far back/deep into your plant as you can. Typically within the rim of your pot.
After trimming off the trailing parts of your plant, cut each node. each node should have approximately 3-6 centimeters below the node and one centimeter above the node. Above are examples of node cuttings.
Next we can make an entirely new plant using the cuttings we made. Above you will see a 6″ pot with 10 nodes planted. This will in time grow into a copy of the original plant! Next to it you see or original plant all pruned back and ready to grow even thicker and bushier than before!
